It's interesting, when I was doing the math today, I realized that while the partner route is better for qualification (PQP), it is actually a lot worse when it comes to redeemable miles. I'd earn roughly 3100 x 11 = 34,100 for the United ticket and only 21,`05 for the ANA ticket. Choose your poison I suppose.
On some carriers, that’s going to be true, but ANA isn’t one of them: you’d earn bonus miles, based on status, for the ANA-ticketed flight also. For a 1K, it’d be a 100% bonus. So, add another 14,070 miles (100% of distance) for a total of 35,175.
