Although not applicable to the OP as noted, this is a point I was about to make. I have noticed the 1000/500 points is now auto-selected, leaving it to us to "negotiate" an alternate welcome gift. I ran into this problem a couple of days ago at a location where the welcome bonus was either 1000 points or continental breakfast for 1 or valet parking. I checked in with the mobile app, but apparently it "didn't go through" (their words) or I might not have even been advised of options other than 1000 points.
