Yes, some elements of "business class service" are common sense. What I took away from the article is that this optional training is really focused on the "back of house", more technical aspects, of operating the galley in business class, which I've always assumed to be a fairly comprehensive effort with lots of moving parts where timing can be critical (esp. regarding food reheating). Even moreso since they stopped serving from the carts.
This, of course, makes the training even more necessary IMO, and so the fact that it's optional is quite a joke. Though on the other hand, this sounded more like a refresher course option for those who perhaps want to learn how to be a more efficient "galley slave."
