According to the CCB app it's a savings account. There is no minimum balance or maintenance fee. I did not have to provide any documents except for Passport when I opened the account. Verification with Chinese phone number was required at time of creating the account. Then send you an SMS with a PIN number to be entered at the teller window.
When I re-verified my account a few years later, they asked for SS# but no supporting documents.
I can check balance at one of their ATM machines, there is a branch in my office building, or using the CCB (China Construction Bank) APP.
