JAL has had the better J product for a number of years now, especially in food quality. However, I think that is no longer the case. The new ANA J seat is FAR superior to any of the seats offered by JAL, but I still find the JAL catering to be superior (although it's a very small difference). In terms of the ground experience, I generally find that JAL is a bit better, especially in domestic travel.
