Generally, I prefer JAL and the JAL seat over the staggered business class seat of ANA. I have not tried the new ANA J seats yet so I can't say anything about them yet. Maybe ANA has the upper hand on the western J menu for long haul, but I would rate the JAL food service better than ANA.

But it is s small things really, they are both top notch service airlines.
