My parents' YOW-EWR-ZRH-AMS flight in J this December just got hit by a schedule change. The YOW-EWR flight at 6:40pm was removed from the schedule, so they now need to leave at 12:00pm and have a ~9 hour layover in EWR.
I found an alternate routing via YUL and FRA that is much more convenient, but AP won't open it up for them because the YUL-FRA leg is only available in J as a Priority Reward and "only a domestic segment was affected by the schedule change".
Do I have any recourse or other options here?
