When checking my bookings, it is not uncommon for me to see seatmaps with hardly an empty seat anywhere. The seatmap usually vanishes at T-72, at which point they adjust the cabin split on single-aisle flights. It then reappears again within a few hours.

I've never seen it on short-haul flights, where at T-72 they adjust the curtain and T-48 the seatmap is gone until OLCI (making T-72 to T-48 the perfect time to grab those front row EC that opens up), but it's quite common on long-haul J and can sometime be gone as early as several weeks before, I think they do it there is only 1 or 2 seats left.
