Following are just a few examples of more efficient approaches:
1. using new free maps instead of your 10 year old maps
2. using free maps (instead of Google) to update your 10 year old maps
3. only mark transfer stations and stations proximate to the areas on your hit list on your 10 year old maps, and draw lines between them connecting the dots
1,2. I don't use free maps. They're too simplistic and omit way too much information (including entire streets, or even areas) to be of practical use in navigation. Furthermore, I prepare for my trips
before I arrive at my destinations. I mark/highlight the sites I will visit on my maps, so that when I get there, I can find them quickly and efficiently with my relatively limited time. Some of these sites are not popular, and therefore may not be shown on free maps. I think this is intelligent planning, not "obsessive-compulsive".
3. That's exactly what I planned on doing. For the missing stations in between the transfer points, I can refer to maps.me. whenever I need to hop on the metro at a nearby station.
