I'm a 1K who's booked on a flight tomorrow. I just checked in, and looking on the upgrade list, only 4/12 seats in first class are booked.

Why does United wait so long to confirm upgrades? It doesn't seem likely that they'll get 8 more first class bookings on this route in the next day?
