I like being able to use ShopSafe for those merchants who insist on auto renewing your membership as mentioned above. I wasn't planning on getting the Apple Card, but maybe I will now.
The short notice might be related to there not being all that many people using it anymore. If there were a ton of people using it, I imagine they would have made it continue to happen with HTML5 and/or their mobile app. Or at the very least, given far more than a couple of weeks' notice.
