sabre31_98 :
Dorian looks worse today than yesterday. It's gaining strength. It's still heading toward Central Florida's Atlantic Coast, where it's expected to hit as a Cat 3 hurricane.
Currently, weather.com still shows a decent 10-day forecast for Marco Island, with isolated thunderstorms and some wind, but not hurricane conditions by means. It's the kind of weather you would expect at Marco Island this year. You go inside when it's raining — to enjoy the many facilities of the resort. The you go outside again when it stops.
Of course, predicting the path of a hurricane is an inexact science. If I had such a trip planned, I would continue to track the storm online. Most likely, I would go as planned. In the unlikely case that the storm takes an unexpected, nasty turn, I would expect waivers from airlines and the resort.
As of now, AA.com and Delta.com have travel alerts, with waivers, for airports in the Caribbean, but not for airports in Florida.
You wrote that this is a Labor Day trip. What are travel dates? Are you flying or driving to Marco Island?
Have you spoken to a manager at the resort?
Please don't take my comments and the comments of others in this thread to be unsympathetic. I think everyone is trying to help, while being realistic about what to expect from a reservation call center.
