They may have been talking about it for a while, but there was no mention of it on their website. I would call their response reactive, not proactive. It was a pre-paid, non-refundable booking, so they knew I'd be coming.
The Marriott is about seven minutes from the airport, and the Sheraton about fifteen to twenty depending on traffic [both hotels are on the Corniche/road running along the Gulf, but on different stretches of it]. You can order an UberXL out of Hamad International, but there are also Karwa taxis of different sizes [Karwa is the local taxi company and is very professional and reliable]. There is a new Four Points joining the family in September and will be closer to the airport [about ten minutes away if you’re really crunching time], but you really can’t go wrong with the Sheraton.

Thanks again.

I've never used Uber. I don't know if I can sign up and make my first trip in a foreign country. I'd be a bit concerned about not being able to let them know if my flight is delayed.
