They can if they want to, but usually don't. Push back and taxi are one of busiest parts of the flight so they are communicating with ramp and ground as well as running start checklists. If they were already flying with the same FA previously, it'd be pretty easy to miss if they didn't interact much during said flight. Morning van rides from the hotel can be pretty silent as its the last little bit of quiet time they get before work.
