A "Flex ticket" means you don't pay a change fee, but it doesn't mean you can change to more expensive flights without having to pay more.
Thanks for replying I understand there would be a fare difference but it was that in combination with the PNR change including my outbound which I had already checked in for. I guess I am just seeing things that aren't there.
