I recently flew the EWR-SIN SQ n/s instead of the three-segment itinerary DL was offering me (something like LGA-DTW-NRT-SIN) and I would absolutely do that again vs the DL itinerary, based solely on scheduling convenience. (While I enjoyed the flight, I think SQ is somewhat overrated by FT, but that's a topic for another thread.)
