What happens at Istanbul airport if you declare the about of USD you are carrying As a friend said he is being asked to pay tax and they now require an IMF certificate (which they are being told they need to pay for) before they can leave the airport I have never heard of an IMF form. They have also been told if they do not pay it they will be arrested for money laundering even though they can prove why they are carrying so much cash
If you're over the limit, you should pay an amount of tax so you should transfer via a bank if you could.
If you're caught, you would be arrested or/and they would seise the money like anywhere in the world
If you're under the limit, you don't need to declare anything.
