As a Preferred Plus on an E class, I'd say you'd be lucky to get a Taurus or other premium. You might also be able to snag a decent SUV (Explorer/Grand Cherokee), but I wouldn't count on it. Especially at SFO, where upgrades are often hard to get. I'd say nearly zero chance of getting a luxury sedan on that rental.
On a side note, I've never seen an S class in the Avis fleet. And the ~10 7 Series that I've seen have been >18 months ago.
