Even if you purchase the Amex Premium coverage, you would still have to deal with Amex's insurer -- and furnish them with all the required information -- in the event you had to make a claim because of rental-car loss/damage. Paying for the Amex Premium coverage does not exempt you from the claims process; it simply provides you with primary -- rather than secondary -- coverage.
