It isn't illogical to assume that Hilton is crushing the mid/low range hotels precisely because that's actually where people like to redeem their points.
It makes far more sense to walk away from Hilton than to adjust to spending massive amounts of points (earned how exactly???) on really high-end hotels.
Yeah, I don’t actually want to go to Bora Bora or a Maldivian atoll and spend $50 on a drink and appetizer in a captive audience hotel. Plus if everyone chases after the super high end luxury hotels because all the other redemptions are garbage for point value, it’s not likely there’s much availability.
