The obvious risk is that someone will steal the OP's checked baggage before airline personnel remove it from the baggage carousel/belt, and store it in the airline's baggage office. If the OP is willing to accept that risk, I don't foresee a problem.

Edited to add: Anyone have any idea how big a problem theft of baggage from the baggage delivery carousel/belt is at YQB?
