Seems like a goofy question but I rarely fly DL. I mainly care about the extra legroom and overhead space.
"Bad idea" - depends on your objective. Not all C+ seats show as "available" on the seat map even if unselected. Depending on aircraft, a few C+ seats are blocked for airport assignment if necessary. Also, since DL manages C+ inventory, their algorithms may have already determined the odds that they will upgrade x number of people out of C+ into F, thus allowing them to sell more C+ seats.
If you only want C+ if you can get the seat you like, then you probably should not purchase C+ without knowing for sure which seat you can get. But, if you'd prefer C+ no matter which seat is assigned, then go ahead and purchase - and enjoy C+.
