As a Gold Passport Platinum I got some amazing upgrades. Since the transition to WOH Discoverist nothing of note even at the previously outstanding properties. I know not to expect anything other than some extra points and a shorter check-in line but assumed the addition of a third tier meant the pool of upgraded rooms were more freely available for the Explorist. Glad I decided not to stretch for mid status this year.
It really isn’t appropriate to expect tangible room upgrades as a Discoverist. The terms are actually clear: NO category upgrades. That means if you reserve a Standard King you get a Standard King... you just might get one on the third floor facing the parking lot instead of the first floor facing a dumpster or air conditioning unit.
Explorist DOES offer category upgrades and expecting to go from Standard King to Premier City View King (or whatever the highest category is) IS appropriate.... as is requesting these rooms (especially if for sale on the App) upon arrival AND requesting to speak to management if denied access to them.
