Both were 50K points per night, but the RC charges almost $50/night extra with a resort fee (which the JW doesn't have at all.) The Club 91 lounge at the JW is an upgraded lounge much more in line with an RC lounge (i.e. free alcohol, 5+ food presentations throughout the day, etc.) So it might be a decent alternative for you (and they do offer Club 91 rooms for awards and on awards with cash upgrades.)
I almost pulled the plug on a 2nd trip for the 1st week of June. The JW has a $239/night rate for their Premium view, Club 91 rooms that comes with $100/night resort credit. Unfortunately, my wife couldn't fit it into her schedule. So we had to pass on it.
$239 is a DEAL! I checked my dates, regular room at jw Cancun is about USD$350 a night which is much cheaper than Ritz but will cost me 200000pt as well for 5 nights. I am leaning towards using 200000pt for the room and pay USD$1000 for the Club lounge at JW marriott because it says the fee is for 2 adults and 2 kids under 5. BUT Ritz Cancun would be charging my 5y old like $75 USd per night+19% taxes to use the lounge IF we do get it on the spot when we check in.
Thanks! Now I just need to read more reviews on the food offerings at both lounge and if it isn’t too much of a difference, it will be JW Marriott!
