Strangely enough, I don't like the MD-90 as well. I notice that both are quiet but the 88 is quieter.
As to the maintenance from the other poster. I just had a maintenance issue on one and surely that is one of the reasons that they are going away. Having said that, I rarely have a problem but that may be the problem with small number averages but the MD-88 is also the most common aircraft type I fly on.
