IME even if the AAgent is willing to rebook, as he/she was in your case (they offered you the crazy routing in Y), they don't necessarily get last seat availability for an interline booking. You saw and purchased inventory for regular sale, but KE may not have made the same inventory available to AA. Sometimes you can get the agent to call the other airline to get the seats but that doesn't always work.

Best case for you is they give you a decent refund for the unused part of your ticket that will help defray your out of pocket cost, and then throw in a voucher or miles to help some more. I doubt you'll be made whole.

The other frustrating aspect of this is that if AA rebooks you can get ORC for the missed AA segments plus credit in the other airline's program. By booking your own you lose the AA miles.
