Yup, it's a surprise. It's not just the extra money, it's the desperation to parse their existing online services, and then charge you for something that has been routine all along. And then what's next? I didn't pay it, cancelled my booking and decided to lump it and fly regular economy this time on Asiana. Figured what the he!!, fly on the A380 before they go away, and we all wind up crammed into A350s. Sigh.

This was so off-putting that I'm not sure I wanted to do this anymore. Since I had 24hrs to cancel, I cancelled my booking. Now trying to decide what to do. I might end up doing PE on China Airlines (which is cheaper but I collect UA miles), or economy on ANA.
An extra $320 is not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things. But it's also significant enough for me to think twice and perhaps take my money elsewhere.
