That won't happen. See above. Although late fee and interest kicks in for being even 24 hours late, you have to be at least 5 days late in order to forfeit points.
It generates bad press but until they change it we have to follow it.
I'm not sure what the bad press is. They disclose the fees and terms in advance, and the cardholder agrees to them. They only kick in if the cardholder doesn't do what they committed to do (i.e. pay on time).
On the bright side, bonvoys have devalued a lot so it could have been worse had it been starpoints that were taken away =P
