No. There was a plastic leaflet in the seat pocket which said that with a laptop all you needed was to open the browser. It did NOT say "a Window's based laptop" and I was using Chrome in my Mac in any case! Besides, once you get onto the plane it's a big bloody late to find out you were supposed to download something before coming on board! If the Android app can be downloaded in flight (it can, I did that on my phone instead and watched on the tiny crap screen), why the hell can't the IOS app?
EDIT - I just looked further down the link you provided. It clearly says there that a Mac is a laptop and can work using Safari and Chrome (and Firefox) - I had two of the three and it did not work. Thanks for the link. Shows what the crew said was wrong.
