I agree that it CAN be. I will be flying non-stop between Denver and London in June/July. I began tracking the flight using Google flights 330 days out. The fare started out around $5,000. When the fare dropped to around $2,500 (144 days ago -- 233 days before departure) I bought. See the attached Google flights chart. The fare has been on a roller coaster ride since then.

I got lucky, but one of my favorite sayings is that. "I'd rather be lucky than smart," but, "we make our own luck by being prepared to take advantage of opportunity when it is presented."
