Yes, I agree with you on this part. Al Maha really is unique property, 60000 points include breakfast, lunch, dinner and activities for 2 people. I chosen to flight to Dubai because only Al Maha. There are no other Marriott properties like it in Dubai.
I am not sure of a Racism issue more likely a commercial issue where they think that can do better on a cash sale than your points redemption.
If you know of an alternative hotel that would meet your need whether it is Marriott or not I would say you require them to honour your booking or give you your hotel of choice under the same conditions of your booking.
