Your photo jives with my experience. However, I found by angling my body very slightly towards the cubby, it was a comfortable fit. For example, your body is straight while you angle your hips - that will hurt no matter what. I realise that I am very short at 5ft 10 but angling very slightly is perfectly comfortable.
