Review Novotel Edinburgh Centre - great renovation

Introduction I have stayed several times before in this hotel but this was a standard Novotel with the typical interiors we all know by heart and that I am so tired about. My last visit in EDI and stay in this hotel was in 2014. I first did not recognize the airport when I disembarked from my flight and did not recognize the Novotel interiors when I arrived. Te hotel has been fully renovated since my last visit and this is for good. The lobby has a much warmer atmosphere Check In Check-in formalities we’re expedited in 30sec. I was likely one of the last of the day to be checked-in. Keys, drink voucher and list of Plat benefits were already prepared and were waiting for me. But, as too often, not a word about loyalty, etc. Room I had booked a Superior/Queen bed & Sofa room day was upgraded to Executive/Queen bed & Sofa which is the same as Superior but with extra amenities (Nespresso machine, bathrobe and slippers). Nice surprise discovering the room as I was wrongly expecting the traditional dated Novotel room. Much more modern style for the bedroom and the bathroom. The welcome gift with a welcome card handwritten by the GM (yes, we are not in French Novotel Only “bad” part : the wall under the window was severely damaged likely after prolonged water leakage or after some typical Scottish rain showers and if the window was left open. Too bad for a new (or almost new) room. But the curtain was hiding it all. Dining Restaurant and bar have been also completely renovated and are nice. I had dinner once and food was very good. Staff very pleasant at the restaurant. Swimming pool The hotel still has of course its very indoor pool. Overall Overall, good stay and nice to see the Novotel brand capable of getting out of their cold atmosphere and of their 50 years old horrible “murs crépis” style (sorry, don’t know how to say that in English, but all my fellow French FTers of the Accor forum will know what I mean ). I was a bit reluctant to come back but now will not hesitate.
