Post-Do : Noboribetsu Onsen, 22-23 April, 2019

In 2015 we had a successful FUK-Do followed by a memorable Post-Do at Kurokawa Onsen. It’s time for another Onsen Post-Do this time at Noboribetsu Onsen. Noboribetsu is about 80 minutes by train from Sapporo and probably Hokkaido’s most famous hot spring resort.

We will stay at Ryotei Hanayura on the night of Monday, 22nd April. On the English language booking site (linked from the front page of the Japanese site) it's the last of the three establishments listed which looks like this.

The package a few of us have chosen is
Early Bird 30Days The Japanese cuisine plan~the greatest dishes of the season~
The rate is 26,500 yen per person (two sharing) including two meals and tax in a Japanese style room, or 31,500 yen per person (two sharing) in a Japanese style room with private open air bath. The evening meal will be a multiple course kaiseki-style meal. The booking option page should look like this.

I chose the more expensive meal option rather than the "smaller quantity Japanese cuisine" as it will be a set meal with no choice and the menu selected should give us more variety. Here is an image of a sample meal or click "Dishes" on the Japanese front page. The plan is to have a meal in a semi-private dining area which means we will all have to choose the same menu option.

Unfortunately most Japanese ryokans don’t have “single rooms” and it’s not unusual for 3 or 4 people to share a room. So if you are a solo traveller you will have to find a roommate or two! Just ask someone who was at the Post-FUK-Do how they got on.

There is a shuttle from/to Sapporo which you can book in advance for 500 yen one way. A few of us plan to take the shuttle to Noboribetsu on Monday but will find our way back to Sapporo or the airport (CTS) after sightseeing in the area on Tuesday. Cancellation is free up to 4 days before arrival.

If anyone is interested in reading about the Post-Do trip to Kurokawa Onsen check post 346 onwards in the FUK-Do thread. And links to what (not) to do at an onsen.

If you have any questions please post here or PM me. Further info on other Do activities to follow.
