Thanks! I kept putting off this trip this summer hoping that if I went in the fall, it wouldn't be raining. I can't imagine hiking that in the rain like that, must've been terribly muddy. Hopefully you weren't hurt when the horse spooked, I was behind one that slipped or stepped on something wrong and fell over, but no one was on it.

We were driving to Copán after Antigua and even though it was a Saturday we had to leave at 5am sharp to beat the city traffic

The trek was indeed fantastic! How did you like Copan? I've heard great things from a co-worker from Guatemala and my limited research online. Just didn't fit into the schedule this time.

Communication was easy. I took 5 years of Spanish in high school (roughly 6 years ago, no practice since) and I got by just fine. Antigua is heavily trafficked by tourists, so you'll be fine. Never let language hold you back, sometimes that's part of the adventure!
