From what I’ve noticed, not really.
First, when I book further in advance, I tend to book Flex. When it’s more last minute, I tend to book Econo.
And was just surprised last week when I called in to make a change to the return segment — same day, just a later flight - just three days before flying. I’d initially purchased my ticket in late December. After paying the change fee, I still came out ahead. Prices on the segment I was changing were actually lower (just a few days out) than when I first bought it, two plus months ago.
I’m ok with prices changing. It’s just the “no promo for you if you book early” attitude that WS has.
(Those flights last week came after the Feb 25 start for this new “double Qualifying” promo. Both segments posted to my account last night, without any bonus. Cuz I foolishly booked with WestJet in advance, and gave them my money too soon. Once again, grrrrrrrrr.)
