If you are just average joe or tourist of US citizen, the risk for traveling to China is minimal. That is, it is much safer than on the 5th Avenue of NYC.

I get the drift and the stats - and I do agree from an odds perspective. China may not recognize a Chinese person's dual citizenship, but just because China ignores it doesn't mean my brother and his HK-born wife (who live in Hong Kong) might feel comfortable with a weekend jaunt to Shanghai with the kids at the moment. Also, the media is never totally wrong. Someone will always be there to play devil's advocate
