Also, if they tell you that you can't check it without paying the $200 oversize fee, what's your plan? You can't just drop it in a garbage can. If you leave a large box just sitting in the ticket lobby you can expect a visit from the airport police.
That's part of the question. Obviously it's easy for other contraband (I've left liquids, food, clothes, and other assortment of over-weight invaluable items near trash cans), but never a TV.
Ideally someone wants it, but the logistics may kill this idea. It's worth $50-100, its essentially a new TV. It's not worth $200.
