I went for work and my company provided me with a driver/security person that accompanied me everywhere I went. The guyanese people I met were all SUPER friendly and fantastic people, but we did get into a couple of situations with pretty aggressive obviously high junkies looking for handouts. Everyone says its safe to walk around in the daytime as long as you stay in the right areas, although a lot of it looked the same to me. I travel a lot for work and pleasure and as fantastic as most of the people I met were I will not return to Guyana unless my work requires it again. That said my company has a few people living/working down there now and they have not had an issue yet, although they do live in a guarded compound.
