I have an old 7 nights cat 5 certificate in my account. According to the convention, I would end up getting a new 7 nights cat 4 certificate. I am planning a trip to Tokyo early next year and found not even one hotel there is under cat 5. I tried calling Marriott customer service three times so far and all of them told me they can't upgrade the certificate level to cat 5 for me.
Has anyone successfully upgrade their certificate from cat 4 to cat 5? And If you did, what did you do to make it happen? Appreciate all the help.
I managed to do this in August - cost an extra 30k, took about an hour. From what I've read I think still possible, just need to get the right agent! Of course it's still not attached to a booking as they took so many months to add old SPG properties to the system that the availability had gone. Escalated and awaiting a resolution.
