When is this flight? UA does block some seats for operations reasons and releases them for selection at check-in. It also has Economy Plus seats that some people try to gamble and get assigned to. I’d personally select one of those two seats and keep checking as the day of flight approaches.
1) Take the aisle
2) Assuming you don't want to pay for Economy plus, you are not likely to be assigned to it if you select a seat
3) However, 24 hours before the flight, silver members can select economy plus for free, and some will. Their regular economy seats will open up, and you may be able to grab an aisle that's further forward. Also, as mentioned some seats are blocked until check in in order accommodate families, etc. Those may become available.
