That's interesting. When I tried to book a TATL flight a week ago on ual.com, I had picked UA metal on outbound and LH metal on inbound. When I went to check the baggage fee page after inputting my *G status, the fee went to $0 on the outbound, but remained at $60 for the first bag on the inbound. That's when I went on to LH's website to double-check. I didn't see the footnote you quoted.
