Got two unexpected upgrades last night. Was a last minute purchase too:

SFO-LAX: I was #4 on List. F full. I scan BP and am handed new BP. Check phone and see that #1 and I upgraded. Wonder what happeneded with #2 and #3.

LAX-DFW: again told cabin full. I’m falling asleep in exit seat when agent taps me and hands me BP. Guess I was # 1 on list. Didn’t even look until after seated in F.
