New Toyosu Fish Market
Tsukiji Fish Market has officially closed on October 6. New Toyosu Fish Market will open for business on Oct. 11. The visitors (tourists) facility will open from 10 a.m. on Oct. 13 at new Toyosu Fish Market. Visitor facility will allow viewing of inside of the market from dedicated visitors area, and visitors will also have access to restaurants and shops at the new market. Starring from Oct. 15 the visitor facility will be open from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
However, visitor viewing of early morning tuna auction will not start till Jan. 15 next year. At old Tsukiji Fish Market sanitation of tuna auction area was always the concern due to visitors walking close to tuna with unwashed shoes from outside and some visitors actually touching tuna by their bare hand. At new Toyosu Fish Market visitors will be segregated by glass windows in a separate room, viewing the tuna auction through the window.
