Me too. My only remaining real interest in reading this thread is to see if anyone can use the cert on SPG properties.
So far nobody has succeeded, either here or elsewhere on the net.

I called the UK # @ +353 21 421 6400, was first transferred to a nice lady in Ireland who had to transfer me to Rewards and spoke with a nice chap who was able to do this without any issue. He just charged me the difference in points 30k.

Thanks a lot for posting yet another DP that things can be done, and it is far easier to go thru international numbers.
As a reminder, international call centers do not work 24/7. So you would need to call within their business hours, preferrable not at 30 min before they close shops!
