We just had a 4 night stay at a Courtyard and I think it's much better than it used to be. The Courtyard used to be the one Marriott brand (other than resorts) that a platinum never had any free breakfast options. The 400 pts + 1 market item or coffee didn't really excite me but this time, I had a choice of 500 pts or $20/day for 4 days because there were 2 of us in the room. That added up to $80 vs 500 points. That's a lot more than I used to get and enabled us to have breakfast or an evening bistro snack a few times.
We also got a room next to the elevator which I was not too happy about until I realized that we had been upgraded to a suite and that we were not hearing the elevator at all.
To me, the $10 credit per person per day is inappropriate unless the room rate is twice as much for two people as one and both room occupants are elites who would be entitled to the credit on their own. If it's one room, one elite occupant (regardless of the total number of occupants) and there's no extra higher rate being paid for the additional occupants, I think there should be only one credit per night per elite-occupied room (and it should be somewhat higher).
