No more free water for Platinum?

Did I miss this change? I checked into the Marriott Courtyard Manhattan East and was told since the merger of the programs there is no more free bottle of water for Platinum members. I have stayed at other Marriott brands the last few weeks and this was not the case. Is this the new policy for all Courtyards?

The Platinum gift at Courtyard is points or the food/beverage credit
No more points and market item like it used to be

The food/beverage credit at Courtyard properties is horrible. I'm a lifetime Platinum and all the property offers is $10 credit. Let alone the hotel is mostly empty and I got a standard King room next to the elevator. This experience is making it easy not to love the new changes.

We just had a 4 night stay at a Courtyard and I think it's much better than it used to be. The Courtyard used to be the one Marriott brand (other than resorts) that a platinum never had any free breakfast options. The 400 pts + 1 market item or coffee didn't really excite me but this time, I had a choice of 500 pts or $20/day for 4 days because there were 2 of us in the room. That added up to $80 vs 500 points. That's a lot more than I used to get and enabled us to have breakfast or an evening bistro snack a few times.

We also got a room next to the elevator which I was not too happy about until I realized that we had been upgraded to a suite and that we were not hearing the elevator at all.

To me, the $10 credit per person per day is inappropriate unless the room rate is twice as much for two people as one and both room occupants are elites who would be entitled to the credit on their own. If it's one room, one elite occupant (regardless of the total number of occupants) and there's no extra higher rate being paid for the additional occupants, I think there should be only one credit per night per elite-occupied room (and it should be somewhat higher).

I guess this was strictly a legacy Marriott thing (?)... many SPG brands offered free bottled water in all rooms regardless of status.

Those of us who choose hotels with our families in mind think otherwise.

Over the last several years, I've stayed in a lot of Courtyards and am used to getting nothing and going somewhere else for food, so getting $80 of f/b credit was a pleasant surprise. I'm comparing the benefit to the bag of chips I got from the Market place at a Courtyard 2 weeks earlier, not what it "should" have been all along. The max is $20/day. More than 2 people in the room does not result in more F/B credit. My husband could be an elite due to RewardsPlus with United but he hasn't bothered to sign up because we always book a Marriott room in my name. If having 2 elites in the room permitted us to get more benefits, I'd tell him to sign up!

Regarding bottles of water in the room (what this thread was about in the first place), I've found that to be location specific, not brand specific. I don't really care because I always have a bottle with me from the flight and I refill it in the fitness center. There is always some type of filtered or bottled water available there.

I'm not sure if it was a legacy Marriott thing or not. There have been a few times that I've been offered water at check in (Residence Inn tends to give out a small bag of stuff due to status) but most of the time, when I've gotten it, it's because there are some bottles that came with the room and are replenished by housekeeping. I don't think that had anything to do with status because it has happened regardless of whether or not I was upgraded. I've also grabbed it from the Concierge Lounge when there was one that was open.

As I mentioned in another post, most often, I just hang on to an empty water bottle, sometimes I bring a personal water bottle, and refill it in the fitness center.

When we stayed at the Heathrow Windsor Marriott in June, we managed to scrounge some water from reception (given we'd just flown in on transatlantic flight) as they are withdrawing water bottles to cut down on waste. In the lounge they don't have bottles of water, instead they have what looked like a beer tap that filled (your own) bottle with either still or sparking water. That perhaps might be an explanation for other properties following suit?

Buy a water bottle and put it in your backpack. Problem solved and plastic waste avoided.

It's a Courtyard. What do you expect? Butler service and the presidential suite?

I'd love if hotels put a water cooler in the lobby. I rarely bring a water bottle on trips because I figure I'll have no place to fill it. Would cost them next to nothing to operate, would keep people happy and hydrated, and they could also sell Marriott branded bottles.

IME legacy Starwood properties offered full-size bottles (like Dasani or NPL) but Marriott offered those mini half-bottles
