Once your flight went on delay, closing the flight is at the agent's discretion. You leave the gate area, you risk missing your flight. You were wrong, and the GA was right. You deciding to yell at the GA - no matter his/her attitude - was a significant bad move on your part.
I've been in this situation many times, and more often than not, the delayed flight leaves earlier than the estimated new departure time.
