It's simple, American Express offers a free card that earn 2 Membership Rewards points per dollar on ALL spending, capped at $50,000 per year. It might make sense to use that card outside the Travel and Dining categories which earn3 points with Sapphire Reserve

If you moved that spend from Sapphire Reserve to American Express Platinum you would net 30,000 additional points per year. Factor that into your assessment of whether it makes sense to have both cards.
