I will put in a claim with Amex, the worst they will say is you used miles so we are not going to cover it.
The laptop is actually a work laptop so I checked with our IT department/help desk and they didn't think it was a big deal. They said its a bigger deal if I had lost it (I work for a hospital).
Don't claim anything for the laptop to DL given its work. They may offer you a small CS gesture but then how will you transfer this to your employer?
Apply for a new bag at retail price. Mention the check in agent didn't use a grey bin to place the bag in, if they didn't, as that will be important info for the processor to have.
